…our new time-travelling overlords

by on Oct.20, 2009, under Time Travellers

TerminatorThe issues surrounding time travel and determinism have been around as long as science fiction, and open to many interpretations.  Would you be able to go back in time an kill your own father?  Can you change the past at all?  Is there one future, or multiple possible futures?  These questions can make anybody’s head swim and are great to talk about in between Star Trek:TNG and Doctor Who episodes, but when respected physicists start talking about the possibility of time travelers coming from the future to sabotage science experiments that hope to shed some light into the nature of time and space, you listen.

In what sounds like an episode of The Sarah Connor Chronicles or the back-story for John Titor, the New York Times is reporting that two respected physicists are suggesting that the continued failures of the Large Hadron Collider and other attempts to isolate the hypothesized “Higgs boson” (I have no idea what that means, it just sounds ominous) is due to sabotage from the future, be that by the hand of nature, or at the hand of time travellers that cannot allow these experiments to proceed.
